Q. Does long-term care cover assisted living, and when does it start?

I am thinking about purchasing long-term care insurance. I am wondering if a long-term care policy would cover assisted living expenses? Can you also tell me when coverage would start on my long-term care policy?

In most long-term care insurance policies, assisted living is a covered expense. Policy coverages and benefits can start as soon as day one and some have a waiting period. Check with your local independent agent for your policy specifics.

Q. Does long-term care cover assisted living and how much is covered?

As a planner, I want to be sure I have my future taken care of for the what-ifs. Long-term care insurance is part of my planning and I want to be sure it covers assisted living expenses. I do not want to dip into my retirement savings to cover my long-term care. Can you tell me how much is covered under my policy?

In most long-term care insurance policies, assisted living is a covered expense. However, it is best to go over your policy specifics with your trusted independent insurance agent so you know what coverages you choose when you purchase your policy.

How much is covered is all dependent on the coverage you select. You have the option to select a number of dollar amounts to cover your long-term care expenses. Keep in mind that the more coverage you have usually the more the premiums will cost.

Q. Does long-term care cover assisted living and what else does it cover?

I am worried about all my long-term care coverage options. Does long-term care cover assisted living or does it only cover nursing homes? And what else does my long-term care policy cover that I need to know about?

In most long-term care insurance policies, assisted living is a covered expense. What else your policy covers is dependent on the policy benefits you chose when initiating the policy.

Typically a long-term care policy will have coverage for nursing home care, assisted living care, in-home care, hospice care, respite care, and adult daycare. It is best to check with your local independent insurance agent for your policy specifics.
